Hikule'o Kava Supplies is a small family owned business based in Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand. Our Kava business is based on supporting Tongan Kava cultivators. Hikule'o Kava Supplies works  closely with its  Kava growers in Vava'u Tonga, to produce mature quality noble Kava for its products.

What  is Kava

KAVA  Knowledge           

Kava or (Piper Methysticum) is a shrub, and a member of the pepper family. It has been cultivated by the people of the South Pacific for millennia.

From Melanesia to the people of Polynesia, Kava has played a big part of the South Pacific, by binding its people and culture together.

The powder is made from roots of the Kava plant, which contains an active ingredient called (Kavalactones).

There are over 103 different varieties of Kava. Here are a few of noble varieties that are cultivated  in Tonga, Kava Fulufulu, Kava Kula, Lekahina, Lekakula.

The strength of Kavalactones in a plant is dependent on the age of the  Kava.

In Tonga, Kava is cultivated for 3-5 years before it is harvested.
